        八十年代末，Mercury Rev在纽约西部靠近加拿大边界的城市Buffalo成立，乐队以某个文艺作品中的芭蕾舞演员命名，也可解释为炼金术中使用的水银、众神信使墨丘利、高速旋转中的车咕噜。主唱的音色略显中性，很难给他们的音乐下定义，后朋克的阴沉与梦幻流行的民谣气质同并存。
